Yesterday, Carleton High School hosted the Girls Active Leadership Squad (GALs) celebration evening. Students presented the projects they had been working on throughout the academic year.

The event began with a presentation from Carleton High GALs, followed by pupils from Rookeries who ran a project to inspire a love of sports at a young age. De Lacy Primary pupils developed activities aimed at boosting their peers’ confidence in multiple sports.

King’s School GALs led a project focused on building girls’ confidence in sports. They are planning a โ€˜Stronger Dayโ€™ event in September to ensure that new Year 7 students start school with confidence in sports and the courage to try new activities.

Larks Hill GALs addressed the issue of sports clubs being perceived as ‘just for boys’. Halfpenny Lane pupils ran a project that involved purchasing books to educate their peers about careers in sports for girls.

Carleton Park GALs identified that some pupils felt uncomfortable playing certain sports. They organised lunchtime activities to build confidence, resulting in increased participation and enthusiasm among their peers.

After the GALs presentations, the students enjoyed a talk from Tara Jane Stanley, an England Rugby League player. She shared her experiences as a woman in professional sports and conducted a Q&A session, offering insights into building confidence and resilience in sports.

Well done to the Girls Active Leadership Squad cohort of 2023 – 2024!
